Fun Baking accessories

I recently did a post on baking essentials (click here if you missed it). So now you know all the basics you need to be able to whip up a cake ready to eat while watching Great British Bake Off. But what if you want to treat yourself to some stylish and fun accessories to brighten up your kitchen? You're in luck as I've found some great products which put the fun back into baking and will make your kitchen the envy of all your friends.

Yolk Fish Egg Separator

This egg separator will make you want to only bake recipes that need eggs separating just so you can use this cool fish! He works by sucking up the egg yolk when you squeeze his silicon body, then he 'spits' it out into another bowl. Easy to use and lots of fun too! He's only £8.95 too from Prezzybox.com and other independent retailers. I want one!

Baking Substitutions Tea Towel

Would you know what store cupboard ingredients you could use to substitute self-raising flour or baking powder if you ran out of supplies? This tea towel is a helpful guide to have in the kitchen as it features lots of baking substitutions, perfect for the keen baker or cook. This British-made towel is also a generous size, washes well and most importantly it dries very well! It's £8.95 and available from Rock Bakehouse Shop and other independent retailers.

Dachshund Silicon Baking Mould

Who could not love this cute Dachshund baking mould? Any dog lover (or dog) would appreciate a dog cake, well why not? It's £8.50 from Devoted to Dachshunds where you'll also find everything you can possibly imagine featuring the little pooch from scarves to tissues (yes really!).

Kitchen Labels

I really like these retro pattern kitchen labels, they are perfect for labelling jars, tins and tubs and they're all in lovely designs. Useful and stylish for only £5 for a pack of 130 from Imperial War Museum Shop and with the proceeds from the shop going to the War Museum there's another good reason to buy them.

Butter churner (also main photo at top of page)

You can have home-made butter in just ten minutes with this stylish kilner design butter churner. It's really easy to use, all you do is add whipping cream and keep turning the handle. It comes complete with step-by-step instructions and recipe book and is available from Silver Mushroom for £21.99.

Lotus Cake Stand

This glossy white pastry stand is a beautiful way to display your pastries or cakes. The three tiers represent the lotus flower, a Buddhist symbol of fortune which signifies purity and enlightenment. You can find it on Maia Ming Designs or on their Etsy site along with more stunning designs.

Jelly and Cake Oven Glove

If your oven gloves are looking a bit shabby and worn out (like mine) then maybe it's time to splash out on some new ones. Oven gloves are something we tend to use until they're falling apart and not something we replace very often. Well I certainly need to replace mine and I love these bright gloves from Annabel James and they'll look great in my kitchen.

Swan Retro Mixer

Ok so this isn't really an accessory but I've added it here because I love the retro style of this mixer and it would look great in any kitchen, contemporary or traditional. It's also available in red, traditional cream, black, lime green, vibrant orange and vintage green so you can get one to complement your kitchen colour scheme. It comes with a whisk, dough hook and beater, and with a 1000W motor and 8 speed settings it will make light work of dough, cake mixtures and batters. It's from ao.com and there you'll find other matching items in the Retro range.

The Doodle Apron

The Doodle apron is like a giant notepad you can use for menus, recipes, baking tips, reminders messages or doodles - whatever you like! It comes with ten double-ended doodle wash-out pens so when you've finished baking you can put the apron in the washing machine and it's ready for your next doodles. It's available in adult and child sizes from eatsleepdoodle and here you can also see the whole Doodle range, including table cloths, place mats and bedding.

Personalised Notebook

A notebook is really useful for bakers to keep recipes, baking tips, weight conversions and other bits and pieces. This high quality hard back book, featuring an illustration by artist Max Ososki, is a beautiful place to store all this information and it can be personalised so it would make a lovely gift too. It's from Made By Ellis for £9.95.

I hope these ideas have inspired you to spruce up your baking routine and put some fun and colour back into your kitchen. I'm off to order a fish egg separator...
