Living Room Makeover

When we bought our house last year, one of the first rooms we decorated was the living room. We ripped out the blue, hotel foyer style carpet and the the '90s striped wallpaper and replaced it with a neutral carpet and more contemporary Gran Decor wallpaper.

Before

Once we had finished decorating we moved all our furniture in and it really started to feel like home. The living room in our previous house had been decorated in similar colours so everything we brought with us matched the new decor. We also brought the curtains with us from our old house and luckily they fit at the new windows and went perfectly with the wallpaper.

After

We still need to replace the ceiling lights but we've not seen any we really like yet. We'd also like a large piece of artwork on the largest wall but again we're still waiting to find 'the one'.  We have put up a print from St Lucia which we got on our honeymoon, the colours are perfect in here.

We've gone for a neutral colour scheme which has a contemporary feel and the three different styles of wallpaper which are from the same wallpaper collection really tie all the areas of the room together.
If we ever feel like we need to add some colour in the future, we can add some accessories but for now we're really happy with the look and feel of the room. I think a neutral room is really calming and relaxing - exactly how a living room should be.

Here are some more 'after' pictures...

The existing stone fireplace works really well with our decor and style of the room.

Even the lamps match the new room!

We bought this wooden carving on our honeymoon in St Lucia, I still love it as much as I did then.

The curtains we brought with us from the old house work really well in the new living room.

The final things we need to do is find some ceiling lights and a large piece of artwork for our largest wall. We're not in a rush and would rather wait to find the perfect ones but we have been in the house for nearly a year now so I hope in another year we will have finally added the finishing touches!
